3RD NATIONAL EVENT OF THE PROJECT SPOZNAJ

On Thursday, 9 October 2025, from 10:00 to 16:00 you are cordially invited to the 3rd national event of the project SPOZNAJ (Supporting the implementation of Open Science principles in Slovenia) that will take place at the institute Rudolfovo – Science and Technology Center Novo mesto (Podbreznik 15, Novo mesto). The event will also be livestreamed via Zoom with simultaneous interpretation from Slovenian into English.

Project SPOZNAJ, co-funded by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation and the European Union – NextGenerationEU, connects the Central Technical Library of the University of Ljubljana and 20 Slovenian public research organisations in implementing the principles of open science in accordance with national legislation and practices of the European Research Area. After two years, the project has already brought visible results: numerous trainings on open science practices and sharing research according to the FAIR principles have been carried out, two professional manuals have been published and the first comprehensive training for data experts in Slovenia is ongoing.

This year’s national meeting will be dedicated to research security and the challenges of preserving academic freedom and enabling universities and research organizations to continue to fulfill their key role in society in times of uncertainty and rapidly changing geopolitical conditions. The focus will be on finding a balance between openness and protection of sensitive knowledge, data and technologies, while also connecting with the economy and industry, where knowledge security is becoming increasingly important.

Among the speakers from Slovenia and abroad, we will listen to presentations of German and Dutch policies and support structures in the field of research security, as well as a discussion on the challenges of reconciling academic freedom with security interests in the new geopolitical context. Prof. Dr. Ben Wagner (IT:U), will conclude the event with a lecture on knowledge security policy and the role of universities in preserving academic freedom.

To facilitate the organisation, all participants are kindly requested to register their attendance, namely:
