When is the library open?

Central Unit University Library is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (24/7). The official hours when library staff are present are every working day between 8:00 and 16:00.

Dislocated Unit Library UP FTŠ – Turistica is open from Monday to Friday between 8:00 and 20:00. A librarian is present every working day between 8:00 and 16:00.

How do I join the library?

A user who wants to become a member of UP UK registers in person at the library (at the library desk).


Students and employees at UP become library members automatically, upon enrollment or employment at the university.

How do I enter and exit the library?

Entering and exiting UP UK is possible by using your student ID card or QR code in the STUDO app (select “UP digital key” in the menu). You must register each time you enter and exit.


If you come in the library in a group, each user must register individually.


If users are not yet members of UP UK and do not have a card, they can knock or ring the bell on the right side of the entrance door during office hours.

Where can I pick up reserved library material?

Reserved library material can be pick up in person at the library desk during office hours.


Reserved library materials will wait to be pick-up for a maximum of 3 working days after receiving notification that the reserved material is available for loan.

If you do not pick up the reserved library material on time and do not inform us that you no longer need it, we will return it to the shelf after the deadline, and you will be charged with a fee for the uncollected material according to the valid Price List.

Where and how can I find library materials?

You can search for library materials in open access by yourself, or order materials from the warehouse (e.g. diploma, master’s and doctoral theses) in person at the library, by phone or e-mail.



You can search for library materials via the CobissPlus online catalog. By clicking on “Show holdings”, you will get information about the UDC number and the word (written in capital letters) under which the material is located on the shelf.

Where can I pay the late fee? Can I pay in cash?

You can pay the late fee at the library desk during office hours. Payment is only possible by card.

Why won’t the self service station lend me library materials?

The self service station won’t lend library materials for several reasons:

  • the user is trying to borrow more than 7 units of library materials;
  • the user has unpaid financial liabilities;
  • the user has unreturned library materials whose loan period has expired;
  • the material was placed on the reader of the self service station before registering with a card or with an enrollment number.

How do I access CobissPlus?

You can access the COBISSPlus online library catalog via the website.

How do I access electronic resources?

Students and employees of the UP can access electronic resources available at UP via all stationary computers in the UP UK premises. You can also access e-resources via remote access via the UP University Library website.


You can access the materials via the University of Primorska Digital Portal : UP, where you log in via the ArnesAAI link and with your student ID (the username is your enrollment number, and the password is the same as your VIS/ŠIS). UP employees should use UNIS data to log in.

Printbox is not working. Can you help me?

Printbox is not affiliated with UP UK. Only Printbox staff can resolve issues with the device. Their customer service is available Monday to Friday, between 7:00 and 20:00, on 080 820 000 or info(at)printbox.net.

How can I borrow diploma theses, since not all of them are available online?

Diploma, master’s and doctoral theses that are not available in electronic form cannot be borrowed. However, you can view them in the library.

To view such materials, please come to the library desk during office hours.

Can I propose the purchase of materials to the library?

You can send a proposal for the purchase of library materials our email address. In the proposal, please provide basic bibliographic information (author, title, year and publisher) and mandatory information on whether the proposed material is necessary for carrying out study and/or research and/or artistic and/or professional activities at UP.

How many books can I borrow at once?

A member of UP UK can have a maximum of 7 units of library materials borrowed at the same time. In some cases (e.g. writing a seminar paper, diploma, master’s or doctoral thesis), an authorized person at the library may allow the borrowing of a larger number of units of library material.

Can I borrow a laptop?

Yes, you can borrow a laptop in person at the library desk during office hours. The loan period is usually 21 days.

How long can I keep the borrowed library material?

The loan period for book and non-book materials is usually 21 days (3 weeks). It is your responsibility to ensure that the loan period is extended. The loan period can be extended a maximum of three times, but only for material that is not reserved with other members and whose loan period has not yet expired.

Where can I leave my belongings when I am in the library?

In the lockers in the Valvasor Room (the group work room on the top floor), you can temporarily store your personal wardrobe, borrowed or other study literature and personal items, but at your own risk. The use of the lockers is limited to 24 hours.

Can I move chairs and bean bags around the library?

Moving furniture around the library is not allowed. After using the reading rooms, we expect you to return all furniture to their original condition.

Where can I get the Wi-Fi password if I am not a student?

Users who do not have access to the Eduroam network can use the guest wireless network in the library. The password, which changes weekly, can be obtained from the library desk.

Can I order library materials from other libraries?

You can order materials from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan in person or by email.

Do you send library materials by post?

We can send you borrowed book materials via insured mail. You will cover the postage according to the valid price list of Post of Slovenia. You can also return the materials back to our address by insured mail.

Can I leave/hang advertising leaflets/posters in the library?

You can leave advertising materials with the library staff, or hang them on the notice board on the ground floor.


Hanging and leaving advertising material elsewhere in the library is not permitted.

Advertising for political, religious or ideological purposes is also not permitted at UP UK.

Can I also borrow magazines for home use?

Magazines cannot be borrowed for home use. You can only browse and use them in the library.

Can I reserve a spot in the library?

Reading rooms cannot be reserved. Reservations by leaving personal items on the tables, chairs and on the floor of the library are not permitted. Library staff will remove items that are left unattended for more than 30 minutes.

How can I borrow and return library materials outside of office hours?

You can borrow or return library materials outside of office hours at the self service station or by insured mail. If for any reason you are unable to borrow or return the library materials, place them in the designated return box. Please do not return materials to the bookshelves yourself.

Can I bring food and drinks into the reading room?

Food and drinks (except bottled water) are not allowed in the reading rooms. You can have coffee and food on the ground floor near the entrance.

Can I use the computers in the library?

Desktop computers in the library are available for use by all UP UK users.
