SECOND FILMUP! – SCREENING OF THE FILM V TIŠINI ŽIVLJENJA (THE SILENCE OF LIFE) AND A CONVERSATION WITH DIRECTOR NINA BLAŽIN

On Tuesday, 7 April 2026, at 19:00, the second FilmUP! event took place in the Trubar Hall of the UP University Library. The event was once again intended for students and employees of the UP, who are united by a love of film art and an interest in in-depth conversations about complex and often taboo topics presented in the film industry.

The event began with a screening of the observational documentary V tišini življenja (The Silence of Life) (2024), which celebrates life through stories of illness, loss and death and asks the viewer the question: “What will you do with the time you have?”

The Trubar Hall was filled with 23 participants, who at the end of the screening greeted the arrival of director and screenwriter Nina Blažin with thunderous applause. In 2018 Nina Blažin won the Festival of Slovenian Film for her feature debut Koliko se ljubiš? (How Much Do You Love Yourself?) received the Vesna Award for Best Documentary Film.

After the introductory questions from the moderator and organiser of the evening, Ylenia Mahnič, the participants quickly joined in the in-depth and personal conversation. The event thus offered a space for joint exploration of the vulnerable topic of death and the process of dealing with mortality – both one’s own and the mortality of loved ones.

The event ended with repeated applause for the director and an invitation to the participants to participate in future FilmUP! events.

The University Library plans to organise FilmUP! events up to four times per year, outside of exam periods. Such events will mostly be dedicated to addressing pressing, demanding or taboo topics, as both participants and employees have expressed a desire for such content.
