PRESENTATION AND DISCUSSION ABOUT THE SCIENTIFIC MONOGRAPH ‘PISMA GEORGA FABRA JOSIPU PLEMLJU’ BY DR. ŽELJKO OSET

On Wednesday, 11 December 2024, at 18.00 we kindly invite you to the premises of the UP University Library (Trubarjeva 1, Koper) to the presentation of the scientific monograph by Dr. Željko Oset:

Pisma Georga Fabra Josipu Plemlju

The scientific monograph offers insight into more than 65 years of friendship and collaboration between two internationally renowned mathematicians of the 20th century, Georg Faber (1877–1966), a German mathematician and then rector of the Technical University of Munich, and Josip Plemelj (1873–1967), a Slovenian mathematician and the first rector of the University of Ljubljana.

In addition to professional opinions and theories in the field of mathematics, the correspondence provides the reader with an insight into the humanistic reflections and life insights of both scholars. The monograph that was published this year by the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA) in Slovenian and German is intended not only for mathematicians, but also for everyone interested in the development of the Slovenian academic community and history.

Dr. Željko Oset, born in 1984 in Celje, is a historian, lecturer and researcher. His research focuses on Slovenian cultural history from the mid-19th century to the end of the 20th century. In addition to his extensive international experience in the USA, Russia, Israel and across Europe, he was involved in two major international projects: COURAGE (Connecting Collections: Cultural Opposition – Understanding the Cultural Heritage of Dissent in the Former Socialist Countries) and SENSOTRA (Sensory Transformations and Transgenerational Environmental Relationships in Europe, 1950–2020). He is the author of several books and more than 50 papers.

In the introduction, University of Primorska Rector prof. Dr. Kavdija Kutnar will welcome participants. In addition to the author of the monograph, prof. Dr. Tomaž Pisanski (UP FAMNIT) will participate in the presentation, and the discussion will be moderated by assoc. prof. PhDr. Jonatan Vinkler, PhD (director of the University of Primorska University Library).
