PRESENTATION AND DISCUSSION OF THE BOOK FOR DIGNITY: AGAINST HATRED AND EVIL
On Thursday, 22 October 2026, at 18:00 you are cordially invited to the University of Primorska University Library (Trubarjeva 1, Koper) to the presentation of the book For Dignity: Against Hatred and Evil (in Slovenian Za dostojanstvo: proti sovraštvu in zlu) by Dr. Urban Vehovar. The discussion will be moderated by Prof. Dr. Jonatan Vinkler.
The author’s perspective on Slovenian history and the present day differs significantly from the conventional view. He presents a unique account of the history of Slovenian society spanning 1,475 years, from its origins around the time of settlement in 550 AD up to the year 2025. He has been able to observe Slovenian society as it exists today or as it existed just moments ago directly, face-to-face, so to speak.
Dr. Urban Vehovar studied at the Faculty of Sociology, Political Science, and Journalism, where he finished his doctorate in 2000. In 2002 and 2003, he worked at the Office for the Prevention of Corruption, and later held positions at all three Slovenian universities: in Ljubljana, Maribor, and Koper. From 2011 to 2013, he collaborated with the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption. Prior to that, he was involved in the work of the Academy for Democracy. Consequently, he possesses an understanding of Slovenian society that extends far beyond the knowledge of the average person. During this period, he made frequent public appearances, advocating for democracy and the fight against corruption, while also offering insights into Slovenian society. In Berlin, following his recovery from a brain aneurysm, he took a job as a guard at a museum and gallery. He also worked at a café in Schöneberg, where he packed coffee into bags and arranged them on the shelves. In this way, he transitioned from the upper-middle class to the lower working class joining the ranks of those earning the minimum hourly wage. Both experiences enriched him as an individual.
After the presentation we invite you to join the informal conversation and socialising.
You are cordially invited.
