LITERARY WALK AROUND KOPER WITH ANDREJ MEDVED (UP BOOK CLUB)

On 14 December 2023 at 17.00 we will have the opportunity to meet the poet Andrej Medved and his relationship with Koper. Črtica bar on Cankarjeva street 10 in Koper will be our starting point for a relaxed chat in the poet’s company.

Andrej Medved is not only an extremely prolific poet but also a Knight of Poetry who won the Maribor Poetry Tournament in 2023. He is also:

• versatile intellectual – art historian and philosopher, publicist, translator and essayist, former contributor and editor-in-chief of the cult magazines Tribuna and Problemi; translator of texts by M. Heidegger, H. G. Gadamer, R. Barthes, H. Marcus, M. Horkheimer, U. Eco, Hans Arp and Pier Paolo Pasolini, and many others …,
• publisher (since 1999 he has been managing the Hyperion publishing house in Koper),
• a retired curator and gallerist (for many years artistic director of the Coastal Galleries), who has said of his poems that they are ‘one single Picture’, and
• Honorary Doctor of the UP.

When he was first in Koper in 1972 for the opening of an exhibition, he got lost in the city and took the first bus back to Ljubljana. Four years later he became a philosophy teacher at the Koper gymnasium. It was love that brought him to the coast (his marriage to Associate Prof. Dr. Vida Medved-Udovič, who teaches at UP PEF).
