WORKSHOP AT UKM: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN RESEARCH

University Library Maribor invitation to a workshop titled Artificial intelligence in research – ethics, copyright, GDPR and responsible use, which will take place on Thursday, 10 September 2026, at 9:00 in the Glazer Hall of the University Library Maribor.

The event is intended to address current legal, ethical, and copyright issues concerning the use of artificial intelligence in a research environment.

Participants will learn:

  • ethical boundaries of using generative artificial intelligence in research work,
  • copyright and open science,
  • using research data and publications in AI tools,
  • responsible use of artificial intelligence in an academic setting,
  • Protection of personal and confidential data and compliance with GDPR.

The workshop will offer practical examples, current dilemmas, and recommendations for the responsible, transparent, and lawful use of artificial intelligence in research.

Speakers

Lucija Strojan

Assistant at the Chair of Civil Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana, and researcher at the Institute of Comparative Law at the Faculty of Law, Ljubljana. Her research work focuses particularly on civil law, consumer protection law, information society law, and the legal aspects of artificial intelligence and digital regulation. She collaborates on several national and international research projects in the field of open data, digital regulation, and artificial intelligence. She actively participates in national and international scientific conferences and publishes professional and scientific contributions in the field of civil and digital law.

Associate Professor Dr. Matija Damjan

Associate Professor of Civil and Commercial Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana, Director of the Institute for Comparative Law at the Faculty of Law, Ljubljana, and Secretary of the Editorial Board of the journal Pravni letopis. In his research and teaching, he focuses particularly on intellectual property law, information society law, and the legal challenges posed by information technologies and artificial intelligence. Between 2020 and 2022, he participated in the Data Governance Working Group at the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI). He actively participates in domestic and international professional and scientific events in the fields of copyright law, open science, and the legal aspects of digital technologies.

Dr. Katja Štemberger Brizani

Lecturer at the Department of Administrative Law of the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana and a researcher at the Institute of Comparative Law at the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana. Her teaching and research work focuses particularly on administrative law, public procurement, concessions, and public-private partnerships. She actively participates in domestic and international professional and scientific conferences, and has also lectured at foreign universities, including Masaryk University in Brno. She is the founder and coordinator of the Legal Clinic on Public Procurement, Concessions, and Public-Private Partnerships. As an author and co-author of numerous scientific papers, she primarily researches issues of administrative contracts, concessions, legal protection, and the contemporary development of administrative law.
